LTO Late Vehicle Registration Fines Waiver 2026

The Land Transportation Office has announced a news update regarding a three-month penalty waiver for late vehicle registration. This 3-month period starts from April 2026, and it will remain till June 2026.

Due to National Energy Emergency Situation, the LTO has decided to provide a 3-month no penalty period to all motorists (vehicle owners) across the entire Philippines. It is great news for every vehicle owner as they can register their vehicle anytime up to the end of June without worrying about LTO penalty for late registration, as it is waived.

What is LTO Registration Rule?

Land Transportation Office has set a fixed schedule for vehicle registration. The vehicle owners must register their vehicle(s) when due otherwise they must pay fines for late registration. Here I will talk about LTO Late Registration Fines Waiver and its conditions.

The LTO Authority does not waive vehicle registration fines or penalties under normal circumstances. Moreover, the LTO registration penalties are computed on automated system and the LTO does not accept any individual request from anyone about waive off penalty/fine for late registration.

April 2026 LTO Fines Waiver Announcement

The LTO Authority has released a notification about LTO Late Registration Fines Waiver from April 2026 to June 2026. This fine waiver applies to all vehicle owners living in any part of the Philippines.

If your vehicle registration is due in 3rd week of April 2026, you can renew it anytime before the end of June 2026. The LTO will not charge any fine or penalty for late vehicle registration.

Does LTO waive the penalty for Late Registration Annually?

No, the LTO does not waive penalties for late registration annually or in any fixed frequency of time. The vehicle registration penalty is waived off only during emergency circumstances such as earthquake, heavy flood, high-speed thunderstorms and other natural disasters and national emergencies.

In July 2025, the LTO announced late registration penalty waiver because of heavy rain and floods.

In April 2026, the LTO announced late registration penalty waiver because of National Energy Emergency.

So, keep in mind that it is not a standard practice for LTO, it announced penalty waiver news only during emergency situations.

Can I Request to Waive Off Penalty for My Car Registration?

No, you cannot submit a request to waive off penalty for your car registration as the LTO does not accept individual requests for that. If your car registration is due in April 2026, the penalty waiver is auto-applied, and you can register it anytime till June end without any penalty or fine.

But you are not eligible for penalty waiver in normal circumstances. The late registration penalty will be applied automatically and you have to pay it to complete your car registration.
